Please click on the following link to watch the short video clip and read the short article about former USC and now drafted Philadelphia Eagle quarterback Matt Barkley.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9228764/matt-barkley-returned-usc-trojans-insurance-sources

After watching and reading, please give a few sentence summary of what you watched and read. Include your opinion about the decision Matt made, and whether or not you believe it was smart. Why do you think he chose the path he did? Would you have done the same thing as him if put into the same situation?

Remember that these are your opinions, they can't be completely wrong if you provide logical facts!

Nolan Carney
At the end of Matt Barkley's junior season at USC, he was projected to be a top ten pick in the 2012 NFL draft. But he decided to stay at USC for his senior season. He had a below average season and suffered an injury which diminished his 2013 draft status. He got drafted in the fourth round by the eagles and could have lost more than 11.5 million dollars Obviously he made the wrong decision financially but most of the time leaving college too soon can hurt you in the long run. He chose this path because he wanted to win a national championship and get his degree. I would have done the same thing as him because more often then not playing your senior season will help you. For example Jimmy Clausen may have had a smoother transition into the NFL if he had one more year of college football under his belt.

matt barkley went to be an NFL professional player after being drafted by the eagles in the first pick of the fourth round. instead of going back to be a senior in college it could have costed him a lot of money to pay his insurance. I would have done the same thing in his place because i would have gotten payed a lot of money to get my insurance or whatever i wanted to do with the money

In this years nfl draft Matt Barkley was taken number 1 in the 4th round. Now being drafted is great for any college player, but in Matt's case he could have been a top ten pick in last years draft which would have given him more money. He decided to stay because there was high hopes that his college team would win a championship, but as the season went along his team didn't do to good and he was injured. What made his injury worse was that he had no insurance that stopped him from falling in the draft. I dont think it was a smart decision because you'll always run the risk of being injured if you decide to play football for another year. If I was in Matt's position I would have went into the draft where I know that I would be a high pick and I would be set with money in the early part of my career.

Matt Barkley was the quarterback of USC. He was a very good quarterback but got injured in his junior year. He went into the draft and got picked by the Philadelphia Eagles. I think his decision was good because he would have lost a lot of money and possible had a career ending injury. Plus I liked how he went for it while most people don't. So i guess his decision was smart. I think it was because he had no insurance and wanted the money and did not want to play collage football any more but went for the money instead. I think i would have done it because i would go for the guarantee money because I get no money playing in collage. Plus what would happen if I got hurt.

I just read and watched that a USC quarterback Matt Barkley decided to back for his senior year of college, instead of entering the NFL draft. Now some say this diction cost him a 20 million dollar contract but I think he made the right diction because he could get hurt or something else bad could happen and he could fall back on his degree and that could help him through life. I think he chose the right path because if the NFL falls though he has an education, if he is good, then he makes a great amount of money and has a good career. I would probably made the same diction just because life is an unknown and things happen.
